The Malawi government through the Ministry of Agriculture has announced that 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer donated by the Russian government to Malawi has arrived in the country.

Minister of agriculture Sam Kawale confirmed the news with local media on Monday February 6,2023.

Said Kawale “I can confirm that we have started receiving the Russian fertilizer has started arriving in Blantyre.”

Kawale added that the fresh fertiliser supply is expected to supplement the ongoing Affordable Inputs Programme.

In July last year, the United Nations, through the World Food Programme, announced that the first shipment of Russian fertilizer left the Netherlands for Malawi.

The lot is part of some 260,000 tonnes of the commodity that the Russian Federation Fertiliser Producers pledged to several African countries via an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP).
