Ministry of Tourism says the forthcoming 5th edition of the Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE) to be held from 25 to 27 April, 2024, at Bingu National Convention Centre(BICC) in Lilongwe is expected to cost about K900 million.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry Chauncy Simwaka disclosed this in Lilongwe when they received a donation of K5 Million from National Bank of Malawi (NBM).
He said the bulk of the amount will go towards hosting international travel writers and buyers.
According to Simwaka, the tourism expo is expected to attract 46 tourism agents and top writers from around the world who will be toured around Malawi to sell the country’s tourism potential in their respective countries which have been targeted as key tourists sources.
He said the annual event will also see over 200 exhibitors showcasing their tourism products and services to over 700 people that are expected to patronize the fifth edition.
“We have so far registered more than 100 companies that will take part in this year’s tourism expo of which some have booked 4 stands, some 5 stands.
“This shows that many are showing interest in this initiative and we are proud of that. This is an event that positions Malawi as a good tourism destination,”he explained.
Malawi has a variety of tourist attraction sites including Lake Malawi, several national parks, game reserves, and Mulanje Mountain.
