At least 45 Lunzu Secondary School students in Blantyre were on Monday morning reportedly rushed to Mlambe Mission Hospital for medical attention after allegedly eating ‘intoxicated food.’
Ministry of Education spokesperson, Mphatso Nkuonera confirmed the development; adding most of them are responding well to treatment.
He said three of them are still being assessed at the hospital.
The district’s director of health and social services, Dr. Gift Kawalazira, also told the journalists that the students developed diarrhea and were vomiting.
He said they suspect that the food poisoning was emanated from flour, which was used for Sunday’s dinner.
Meanwhile, all food services at the school have been suspended to investigate the incident well.
