Two in police custody over human tissues possession in Phalombe

Malawi Police in Phalombe are keeping in custody two men Charles Katunga,50,and Amos Magombo,63, for allegedly being found with human tissues and trespassing on a burial place.

According to Phalombe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Jimmy Kapanja, on June 2, 2023 their officers at Migowi Trading Centre received a tip-off from a business man, that the two were offering for sale corpses of infants

.

Kapanja said police raided the office of the business man which led to the arrest of the two suspects, immediately upon their arrival.

“Upon searching their bags, they found two decomposed bodies of infants.

“The two were taken to Phalombe Police Station for interrogation where it was discovered that they trespassed and vandalised a graveyard at Jaden Village in Traditional Authority Kaduya,” Kapanja said.

He added that clinical officers verified the were of newborn twins and police ordered a re-burial.

The two suspects will appear before court to answer charges of possessing human tissues (corpses) and trespassing on a graveyard.

Katunga comes from Mgona Village while Magombo from Njaya Village, both from Traditional Authority(TA) Kaduya in the District.
