Chakwera orders that late Peter Fachi should be given military honours

President Lazarus Chakwera has ordered that the departed former cabinet minister and Attorney General Peter Fachi should be given military honours.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, who is also legislator for Lilongwe Mpenu Constituency Eisnhower Mkaka told Parliament on Thursday that President has given the directive in line with his commitment to confer military honours to anyone who served in public office.

The decision came in the house after a member of parliament for Mwanza central constituency Nicolas Dausi said the house should honour the late Fachi for his contribution and service to the country.

All parties in the house including MCP, Democratic Progressive (DPP), United Democratic Front (UDF) and AFORD sent their condolences to the bereaved family.

Fachi succumbed to a stroke in Blantyre on Wednesday night.

His body will be laid to rest on Saturday at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre.

Fachi served as Attorney General and Justice Minister in the United Democratic Front-led administration.
