Malawians on social media have been reacting to Gwamba’s first single of the year 2023 titled ‘Fumbi’, which he has featured Eli Njuchi.
The audio of the song has been produced by Tricky Beats while the video has been directed by Essim of Animal Lab.
The release of the song was initially slated for Monday 31st July but was delayed to honour the soul of the departed musician Tremour who passed away on Sunday and was laid to rest on Tuesday July 1st.
While some are applauding Gwamba and Eli Njuchi for the song, others have a different opinion while others are wondering whether Gwamba has returned to secular music according to their own understanding of the new song.
One music fanatic Plata Rex Phalika wrote; ” This is better than his last year projects. I can confirm that this is the Gwamba that we missed for 6 years. Chichewa rap standards redefined.”
“Big up my favorite people Gwamba and Eli Njuchi. Keep it up!” Wrote Mphatso Phiri on Facebook.
Another music follower Emmanuel Chikuse says he has a lot of respect for the two artists but thinks that ‘Fumbi’ is not a good song.
He said, ” I love Gwamba and I love Eli Njuchi, I don’t like this song. That’s all I can say.”
“I don’t think tomorrow will play it again. Gwamba pull up please,” says another music fanatic just known by the name Ronwell on Facebook.
Stanley Khunga thinks that the song has just cought a lot of people’s attention because the artists are famous not because it is a good song.
” _Chabe kuti anthuwa ngodziwika kale_[It’s only because the artists are famous] but if it was a song by an upcoming artist mmmmmmh!”
Austin Dombowa thinks that with the new song (Fumbi), Gwamba does no longer qualify to be called a gospel artist
He wrote, “Welcome to secular… Gwamba.”
Meanwhile, Gwamba, real-name Duncan Zigambo is expected to hold a big music concert on August 26, 2023 at Mzuzu stadium.
