The newsly demarcated Lilongwe City Nankhaka Constituency has today held first Constituency elections where delegates elected Gift Chisaka as its Chairperson.

The move follows a directive by the party leadership to have Area committee elections in all the newly created constituencies as part of strengthening grassroot structures.

In an interview Malawi Congress Party (MCP) District Chairperson Alfred Matchumbuza declared the polls as free and fare.
The DC said there was no element of violence and cheating.

“Everyone exercised his or her right to vote so we declare these elections free, fare and credible,” he said.

In his speech, Jiya commended all delegates for their good job of maintaining peace.

Jiya said the peace as demonstrated at the elections shows democracy is maturing.

Lilongwe City Nankhaka is among 8 new constituencies in Lilongwe urban created after the constituency demarcation exercise by Malawi Electoral Commission.

Jiya has since congratulated the new executive committee for being elected into the executive.
