The High Court in Lilongwe has on Wednesday found the wife of late Professor Peter Mumba, Annie with a case to answer on charges of killing her husband.

The suspect was arrested in 2020 after postmortem results had indicated that Mumba who was a professor of chemistry at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in Lilongwe had died of acute poisoning.

In his ruling, Justice Mzondi Mvula observed that the conduct displayed by the wife was suspicious saying she delayed to seek for medical help when her late husband fell ill.

Mvula further observed that she delayed in taking Mumba to the hospital when he started complaining of being unwell.

Again Annie is being accused of calling for an ambulance yet they had a fleet of cars in their compound.

Mvula also said that the wife immediately left after her husband’s burial.

The court had since directed that the defence stage of the case will resume in October this year.

In an interview with local media, defence lawyer Innocent Kubwalo said the defence team is ready for the next stage and will parade five witnesses.

The suspect hails from Chituka Village (T/A) Malengamzoma in Nkhata Bay district.
