Umodzi Party(UP) president Professor John Chisi and former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice president for Central Region Zeliah Chakale have today joined the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
The welcoming ceremony of the two politicians and others is being held at MCP headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.
In his remarks, Chisi, whose party is already in the Tonse Alliance, says developments President Lazarus Chakwera is implementing are there for all to see.
“Time is now for us to unite for the sake of this country. This is what the president was preaching yesterday at Umodzi Day. You know, people without vision cannot run this country,” says Chisi.
On her part Chakale says she is back on her political base; adding she has been moved by Chakwera’s restructuring of the Lilongwe City and other infrastructures.
Chikale resigned as DPP veep last month, citing personal reasons.
“My Vice President position in the DPP was only for me to fight others. It made me to create more enemies. I saw no reason to continue on that path,” she claims.
Among others who have also announced joining the Malawi’s first political party are Moreen Issa and Chikumbutso Sinsamala from DPP.
According to MCP General Secretary Eisenhower Mkaka, those who have announced joining MCP today are just few from those who are wishing to do so anytime.
Mkaka has however, asked MCP long time members to welcome the new ones with a smile and stay with them ever.
