Two men are in police custody in Chikwawa for allegedly stealing fifteen herd of cattle worth K7.3 million.

Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba has told us in an interview that the suspects are Macklaston Mpote and Charles Kupheka.

He says the cattle went missing on November 29 this year.

“They were spotted slaughtering animals at Chingalumba village near Majete Game Reserve fence along Kakoma road during the night of December 2, 2023.

“Our team rushed to the scene whereby on the way they intercepted a vehicle ‘NOAH’ black in color registration number PE 7980 carrying six carcass of cattle,” says Matemba.

He adds further investigations led to the recovery of three live cattle and the two suspects were arrested on the spot while others escaped.

The carcass and the three cattle have since been collected by the owner after a positive identification.

Meanwhile, police say they are still hunting for the other suspects who are currently at large.

Matemba also says that investigations are still underway in order to arrest the other suspects who are at large.

Both suspects come from the same Chikwawa district.
