Malawi’s renowned Human Rights Activist Undule Mwakasungula has urged Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Journalists in Karonga district to be proactive in disseminating messages of peace building in older to end political violence and intimidations in the districts.
Mwakasungula made the call on Tuesday after an interaction meeting with CSOs and members of the media aimed at finding solutions of ending violence, as nation approaches the General elections period.
The activist said, Karonga is one of the districts which registered more political violent cases in the past elections hence to avoid repetition of the scenario.
He said :”We want to engage stakeholders to be proactive in civic educating the masses.
“Karonga has been identified as one of the hottest district in terms of conflict, therefore, I thought it wise to interact with the Media and CSOs within the district so that they can engage people to end the vice before 2025 elections as we are going close with the campaign.”
Apart from discussing issues of peace, Mwakasungula also encouraged the media and CSOs to be in forefront disseminating information about climate change.
On his part, Secretary for District Peace and Unity Aaron Lusubiro Mwenelupembe commended Mwakasungula for the gesture saying this will help in managing conflicts.
