Activist Mangochi questions disrespect of Chilima at Chilembwe Day

Karonga based rights activist Lyton Mangochi, has questioned the MCP led Tonse Alliance government over treatment given to Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima during a public meeting addressed by President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.

Mangochi said it was very surprising to note that at the Chilembwe Day in Chiladzulu, Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda was given the task to ask President Chakwera to address the gatherings while the Vice President was there.

He said the way how the protocol was observed, it is speaking for itself that Chimwendo Banda is the Prime Minister of Malawi and Dr. Chilima is being taken as a useless person at any public function President Chakwera is in attendance.

Speaking through a video clip circulating in various social media platforms, Mangochi has suspected that President Chakwera is all aware of the bad treatment being accorded to his Vice President and is happy to see him seated.

Mangochi has claimed that Dr. Chilima is not respected at a government function and treated as an ordinary citizen because of Chimwendo Banda who has taken the mantle of the Vice President of the Republic as a Prime Minister.

“President Chakwera is happy to see Dr. Chilima not given a podium to address the gatherings but to be always seated,” he said.

In one of the previous audio clips, Political activist Bon Elias Kalindo said President Chakwera and Dr. Chilima are not in good terms besides the two shaking hands at public meetings claiming that each one of them don’t see each other well.

Kalindo observed that the Vice President role is recognized only when President Chakwera has travelled outside the country and when he comes back home, he no longer remains the Vice President of the country.

He claimed to have told Dr. Chilima of the MCP’s hidden agenda against him in government so that he can make an intelligent decision of walking out of the Alliance for the MCP to run government on its own but Dr. Chilima paid a deaf ear.

“Had it not been for Dr. Chilima and the UTM, Chakwera would not have been President today, MCP has forgotten and is treating him as not important,” said Kalindo.
