She is known for sharing her personal moments with a region of her followers . On Tuesday, Dr Joyce Banda,the former president of Malawi celebrated a 40 year old wedding anniversary to her husband Former Chief Justice Richard Banda.
Writing on her social media handle, Dr Joyce Banda said. “Today, the 23rd January I got my 41st bouquet of flowers because 40 years ago today, we got married amidst opposition from both sides of our families.”
The Former President used the opportunity to give a little history on how things were back in the days when marriages between people of different troubles used to court so much opposition “41 years ago a few northerners and southerners were brave enough to get married because of the strong opposite traditions. The south being matrilineal and the north being patrilineal. Infact my mother gave us six months and she promised she would be waiting to welcome me back as this marriage could never work” she said
Dr Banda spoke highly of the time she has spend with her husband, describing Richard as a great father and wonderful parent
“We thank God that all the promises Richard made to me he has fulfilled. His parenting style has also seen our nine children grow to be successful men and women in their careers.”
