Malawi Congress Party Director of Youth Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also Minister of Local Government, says district councils need to be in the forefront, ensuring that people in the country are not multiple beneficiaries of government’s social protection programs.
Speaking today at Nkhunga Police Ground in Nkhotakota during a political rally, Chimwendo Banda said it is worrisome that some people are able to access support from a number of programs, including the Social Cash Transfer and AIP while some are not benefiting from any program.
He attributed this to anomalies in identifying beneficiaries at the local level.
Dr. Ellias Chakwera , Presidential Advisor on Education, urged MCP supporters to ensure they register to vote during the 2025 elections, saying participating in an election is crucial in democracy.
Richard Chimwendo Banda was at the venue to also attend the finals of the Dorothy Chikonje Football Trophy. He was the Guest of Honour at the event.
Also in attendance are members of parliament who include Overstone Kondowe and Peter Mazizi.
