Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire, says tourism remains government’s crucial sector in the implementation of the Agriculture,Tourism and Mining (ATM) Strategy.
Mkandawire who was representing Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule, made these remarks during the commemoration of 35 years of excellent service by Satguru travel group at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Mkandawire disclosed that the Chakwera led administration is committed to accelerating the growth of tourism to ensure that Malawi remains one of the favourable tourism destinations in Eastern and Southern africa.
He added that government’s commitment in improving the tourism sector is also manifested in the increased allocation to Ministry of Tourism in the 2024/2025 budget which will help the ministry to carter for both tourism and the wildlife sector.
The Minister also commended Satguru for the contribution that the organisation has made to Malawi’s tourism sector which he described as outstanding.
In his remarks, Branch Manager for Satguru in Malawi, Swapnil Karkhile hailed the Ministry of Tourism for its commitment in promoting and championing the growth tourism sector in the country .
“As a company we commend the minister of tourism and the whole ministry for their active role in ensuring that the tourism sector is revived” said Karkhile
Satguru Travel group was established in 1989 in Kigali Rwanda, while in Malawi the organisation started its operations in 2011. So far the company has won over 15 world travel awards and Satguru Malawi has been leading in the travel agency awards in both 2022 and 2023 respectively.
