Man arrested at border in possession of illegal medical drugs

In a shocking turn of events, a 22-year-old man, Shaibu Idinih, was recently arrested at the Mchinji border for being found in possession of a large quantity of assorted medical drugs.

The suspect, who hails from Binali Village in Mangochi, was caught by officers at the Mchinji Border Police Unit with 380 tablets of ARVs and 10 blisters of Sulphamethoxazole and Trimethoprim as he attempted to cross the border en-route to South Africa.

The District Police spokesperson, Limbani Mpinganjira, revealed that Shaibu Idinih is expected to appear before court soon to answer to charges of being found in possession of medical drugs without a permit and with the intent to export drugs.

These charges are in violation of Section 95 and 96 of the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority Act.
