Malawi Traffic Relief Success

The extensive construction of roads and bridges aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in major cities across Malawi has yielded significant results in Blantyre.

Under the dynamic leadership of President Lazarus Chakwera, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works was tasked with the strategic development of new transportation infrastructure.

For example on February 12, 2021, Honourable Halima Daud, MP, Deputy Minister of Local Government launched K2 billion roads construction projects in Blantyre City.



Under the Roads Fund Administration financed projects, the Council constructed filter roads which are currently functional.

In Zomba the Mayor and Chinamwali Ward Councillor Davie Maunde, launched the construction of the Ndelemani Road worth K980 million.

The 1.5km road, took about 180 days to complete, and was constructed by Cas Civil Engineers.

These newly constructed roads and bridges have notably eased traffic congestion, enhancing efficiency in transportation and contributing to economic growth.

Among the key road projects completed are the Chipatala to Kamba Market Road, Michiru to Black Box Road, Chiwembe to Newlands Road via Manje, Makhetha to Ndirande via Nkolokoti, and Namiwawa to Sunnyside.

The improved accessibility has positively impacted time management for the populace, facilitating their engagement in economic activities and bolstering the nation’s economy.

Prior to the construction of the roads economic experts remarked on the transformative effects of these infrastructure enhancements.
