Chilima arrives in Tanzania

Vice President, Dr.Saulos Chilima, has arrived in   Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where he is expected to attend the 60th anniversary celebration of the Union Day of the United Republic of Tanzania scheduled to take place this Friday, April 26,2024, at Uhuru Stadium.

Chilima  who was seen off at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe by Secretary in the Office of Vice President, Luckie Sikwese and some government officials was welcomed by Tanzanian Officials and members of Malawi diplomatic team



President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera has delegated the Vice President to represent Malawi at the ceremony following an invitation from Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Information, the delegation is a sign of a cordial relationship between the President and the Vice president.

The statement says the president will continue to acknowledge the vice  president since, according to the law, everyone is innocent until proven guilty by a fair trial and independent court of law.

Chilima is expected to return on  Saturday 27 April,2024.

Tanzanians annually commemorate the day on which the United Republic of Tanzania was formed on April 26, 1964, when the Republic of Tanganyika and The People’s Republic of Zanzibar merged under the Union’s articles.

Malawi and Tanzania share a common border, primarily through the major land crossing at Songwe-Kasumulu.

Additionally, various ferries operate between the two countries on Lake Malawi, with two major ports being Mamba Bay (Tanzania) and Nkhata Bay (Malawi).
