He further said his Citizen for Transformation (CFT) group is merging ideologies with those of AFORD as members of the group have also joined the party.

Both Mtambo and Chihana asked people to vote for the party in next year’s elections saying it is geared to address challenges that people are facing in the country.

Mtambo is a Malawian politician who served as Minister of Civic Education and National Unity from 2020 to 2023.

He isĀ  known for leading demonstrations against the regime of President Peter Mutharika, accusing it of nepotism and corruption.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Malawi (UNIMA) and a Master’s degree in International Cooperation and Development from the University of Pavia, Italy.

AFORD came in the political lime light in 1993 and its founder the late Chakufwa Chihana is known as one of the key fighters for multiparty democracy in Malawi.

The party has a stronghold in the northern region.
