Silver Strikers claimed a 2-nil victory over Creck Sporting on Sunday afternoon to stretch its lead at the top of the TNM Super League with a three point gap.
Uchizi Vunga put Silver ahead at 45 minutes with a sublime strike outside the box after a beautiful exchange of passes between Adiel Kaduya,Chimwemwe Idana and Chikondi Kamanga.
The second half saw Creck Sporting looking hungry for an equaliser and they almost got it at 52nd minute through Hardy Ng’andu but his strike was saved by George Chikooka.
McDonald Lameck nearly extended Silver’s lead through a free-kick in the 59th minute but he was denied by the woodwork.
Chimwemwe Idana who was also voted man of the match scored the second goal for the central bankers from a rebound after Creck Sporting goalkeeper Charles Chisale stopped substitute Atusaye Nyondo from scoring.
Creck found the back of the net in the 65th minute through Rahim Mtondera but the goal was ruled out for a free-kick following an infringement on goalkeeper George Chikooka.
The win means that Silver has now accumulated 16 points after playing six games.
Elsewhere, Mzuzu City Hammers moved to second on the log table following their narrow victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium.
Isaac Msiska scored the only goal of the match just a minute before half time to take his team to the second position on the log table with 13 points dislodging Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who have now moved to third.
In Blantyre, it ended 1-all between Wakawaka Mighty Tigers and Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium.
Kelvin Banda scored for Tigers in the 68th minute following a well taken free-kick by Precious Chiudza but Dedza equalised in the added time through an own goal by Bright Mtondagowa just two minutes before the end of the regulation time
Tigers are eighth on the log table with 8 points followed by Dedza who are perched on position 9 with 7 points.
