Deputy Minister of Education, Nancy Chaola Mdooko has appreciated the cordial relations existing between the Republic of Malawi and the Peoples’ Republic of China since 2007, which has opened avenues for further growth in many sectors including higher education.
She made the remarks on Sunday in Blantyre at the ‘All Malawi Chinese Song Competition’, organised by the Confucius Institute and University of Malawi (CI-UNIMA) at Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre.
Mdooko noted that the setting up of the Confucius Institute in Malawi through the two countries’ implementing partners, namely, the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), and the University of Malawi is one of the many fruits that our diplomatic relations have borne.
She applauded universities in Malawi which, through the Institute, are offering free Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange. She also noted that from a human capital development perspective, the event was very important because it inculcates positive culture.
Speaking earlier, Chinese Co-Director of CI-UNIMA, Professor Zu Lijun said the competition was paramount as it strengthened the bilateral relations between Malawi and China and expressed China’s commitment for continued fruitful partnership with Malawi.
