The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has proposed the establishment of a special body to enforce standards and ethics in the country’s auctioneering sector to curb corruption and fraud.
CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa made the call on Thursday in Lilongwe during a press briefing aimed at bringing to light corrupt practices suspected to have happened at the auction conducted by the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) in April this year.
According to Namiwa, Public Procurement and Disposal Assets Authority (PPDA) should stop KADO Auctioneering company from conducting any public auction for its questionable conduct during the auction.
He highlighted the alleged corrupt practices within the auction process, posing a threat to government assets.
When contacted, Kate Kujaliwa, the PPDA Public Relations Officer (PRO) refrained from commenting on the matter, stating that they have not received any formal information regarding the issue.
