The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has condemned the acts of violence that occurred during Sunday’s match between defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The match between the two sides ended violently, following a Silver Strikers goal that was scored by substitute Chinsinsi Maonga towards the end of the match.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, Sulom says the stoning incident that happened is unacceptable and goes against the spirit of sportsmanship and the values that it uphold in the league

Sulom further assured stakeholders including players, fans and officials that it will not tolerate such behavior and disciplinary action will be taken against the perpetrators.

“Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible  in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.

SULOM is committed to ensuring the safety and security of everyone involved at the Super League matches and will work closely with law enforcement to investigate this incident thoroughly,” reads the statement in part.

The Super League body has therefore called on football fans to maintain peace, showing respect for each other and the sport.

The statement further reads, “The Super League of Malawi remains dedicated to promoting a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants in the beautiful game.”

The irate fans smashed Silver Strikers Coaster and damaged other items after referee Gift Chiko ended the match prematurely following the eruption of the violence.
