Unofficial results from the local by-election conducted by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Mwasa Ward, Mangochi North East Constituency, show that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate, Stewart Mwase, is leading.
Acording to the unofficial results, Mwase is leading with 1,073 votes, trailed by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate, Adam Kida, with 493 votes.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, Assam Dickson M’bwana, has collected 476 votes, while the Umodzi Party (UP) candidate, Andalason Madi, has managed to secure 17 votes, and the People’s Development Party (PDP) candidate, Lynah Bridget Tedie, has garnered 57 votes.
MEC is expected to announce the official results of the by-election tomorrow Wednesday July 24,2024.
The electoral body was conducting the by-election in Mwasa Ward following the death of councillor Edna Jose in 2022.
