Kasungu Police Station has reported a slight decrease in the overall crime rate, with 563 cases recorded from January to June 2024, compared to 566 cases during the same period in 2023.
However, road accidents have increased from 53 in 2023 to 66 in 2024.
At the Station Executive Committee meeting held on July 20, 2024, Deputy Commissioner of Police Obry Nyirenda attributed the success in crime reduction to effective policing strategies and strong community relations.
He cautioned officers against corruption, emphasizing that those caught engaging in corrupt practices would face legal consequences.
Nyirenda also announced plans to install CCTV cameras in the central business areas of Kasungu to enhance security.
On his part, Chairman of the Kasungu Station Executive Committee for the urban area Isaac Daka, praised the joint efforts between the police and community policing forums.
During the meeting, monetary prizes and equipment were awarded to high-performing Community Policing forums and police units.
Kasungu Police Station oversees 17 police units and collaborates with 44 Community Policing forums, comprising 35 in rural areas and nine in the municipality.
