As Malawi prepares for the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) set for August 2025, the country is actively engaging in preparatory activities to ensure a successful participation.
Next week, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo will represent Malawi at a key ministerial meeting for all participating African nations. This crucial meeting, scheduled from August 25 to 25, aims to lay the groundwork for the upcoming TICAD, which will focus on advancing Africa’s development through collaboration with Japan.
Charles Nkhalamba, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed Minister Tembo’s travel to attend this preparatory meeting. The participation underscores Malawi’s commitment to the TICAD process and its anticipation of the conference’s potential benefits.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan highlighted Japan’s ongoing dedication to supporting African-led development initiatives. Since the inception of TICAD in 1993, Japan has worked to strengthen its ties with African countries, reflecting a long-standing commitment to collaborative growth and development.
As Malawi and other African nations prepare for the conference, the focus remains on leveraging this international platform to enhance partnerships and drive forward sustainable development across the continent.
