Chakwera said the award goes beyond personal achievements as it also signifies the new chapter in cordial relations between Malawi and Mozambique to which he said President Nyusi’s leadership has been most instrumental.

Speaking during the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in International Affairs and Deplomacy to President Filipe Nyusi at the University of Malawi,  Great Hall in Zomba, President Chakwera said the leadership of Nyusi has resulted into Malawi and Mozambique to regularly stand together.

“Today, we gather to recognize an extraordinary leader, a champion and a beacon of hope for humanity. It is my distinct privilege to award the Honoris Causa, the highest honor our University can bestow upon a Head of State, to my esteemed counterpart, His Excellency, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

Even though our countries have shared a common border, culture, and geography for decades, that affinity and proximity have not always translated into warm relations between our peoples. It took his prowess in diplomacy to recognize that with the new Administration in Malawi, an opportunity to transform the relationship between our countries had emerged and needed to be leveraged” Said President Chakwera who is also Chancellor of the University of Malawi.

President Chakwera has since commended his Mozambican counterpart for his educated expertise in International Affairs which has fostered dialogue, understanding, and peace among nations to which Malawi is a beneficiary.
