Government spokesperson who is also Minister of Information and Digitalisation,Moses Kunkuyu, has described a group of senior Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials who held a press conference in Lilongwe on Thursday as desperate individuals.
The DPP officials including Peter Mukhitho, Shadreck Namalomba, George Chaponda, Mary Navicha, Gladys Ganda, Ben Phiri, Sameer Suleman and others demanded that the government fire certain senior public officers due to their alleged involvement in corrupt deals.
Reacting to the calls, Kunkuyu, said that those making the demands are desperate and lack a development agenda for the country.
He emphasized that the same DPP officials had previously compromised the country’s economy.
Kunkuyu dismissed claims by the officials that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is behind the social economic challenges which Malawians are facing
He said everyone in the country was there during the DPP regime, and they all know that it was them that brought the challenges.
The minister added that it is a lie that corruption levels have increased under the MCP government, as there is no party that has shown more interest in fighting corruption than the MCP.
He also noted that corruption remains a perception until proven.
The press conference was held under the theme ‘Unmasking MCP Corruption, Impunity and Electrical Fraud.
