NOCMA confirms steady fuel supply amid fears of shortage

The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) has reassured the nation that there is a steady and continuous supply of fuel to meet the country’s demand, dispelling concerns over a possible shortage. NOCMA’s Spokesperson, Raymond Likambale, disclosed this in an interview with Zodiak Online, affirming that Malawi has sufficient fuel stocks.

According to Likambale, a total of 3.2 million litres of fuel are expected to enter the country by tomorrow morning. This fuel will be delivered by 46 trucks arriving from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and 41 trucks from Beira, Mozambique. He added that these trucks are already in transit and will arrive shortly.

In addition to the road deliveries, NOCMA is expecting a train carrying 2 million litres of diesel to arrive at its Matindi Depot in Blantyre on Sunday. This fuel shipment will further boost the country’s reserves.

The arrival of these consignments comes at a crucial time when there were growing fears of a fuel shortage, which could have disrupted daily life and economic activities. Likambale’s statements, however, are expected to alleviate these concerns, as he emphasized the government’s efforts to ensure that fuel stocks remain stable across the nation.

Malawi’s dependence on fuel imports from neighboring countries such as Tanzania and Mozambique makes maintaining a seamless supply chain vital. NOCMA’s proactive measures to secure and transport fuel are aimed at preventing any potential disruption in supply.

This assurance of adequate fuel reserves will likely ease the anxiety among consumers and businesses alike, ensuring that the country remains operational without any looming energy crisis.
