African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) in Arusha, Tanzania,on Wednesday morning dismissed a case filed by Misozi Chanthunya who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2020 for murdering his Zimbabwean girl friend Linda Gasa, whose body was found buried under cement concrete at a cottage in Mangochi.

In his application to the AfCHPR, Chanthunya argued that the State had violated his right to a fair trial as protected under Article 7(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

However, in its ruling, the court concluded that the trial was fair, according to state lawyer Neverson Chisiza.

“Chanthunya’s application has been dismissed. The court has found that the Respondent State, Malawi, did not violate his right to a fair trial,” Chisiza said told Nation Online in a Whatsap response.

Gasa was murdered in 2010.
