Kalindo tells UTM frustrated convention aspirants to meet

By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Kalindo, has told the UTMs presidential aspirants who are not happy with the way the Convention elective results were pronounced, to meet for one unity of purpose advising them that going to court is not a solution.

Kalindo has asked all losing aspirants to reflect the way they are living with their people advising them the convention elective results have taught them who and who are their friends and enemies claiming that the votes they got 26, 23 and 21 are from their genuine supporters.

He said it is sad that some of the losing aspirants have been approached by chiefs and their supporters to resign from UTM and form their political parties advising them that doing this, will be finishing themselves politically.

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo said he had heard that some losing aspirants frustrated with the outcomes of the convention have joined together with the call to have another UTM Convention either in December, 2024 or January, 2024 describing this as not wishing the UTM well.

Kalindo said he is one of the founders of the UTM alongside with Mrs. Callister Mutharika, Ngalande, and Allan Ngumuya saying they cannot allow in any way anyone to divide the UTM as if the owners of the party are all dead.

He said it is also sad that Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s spirit is not resting 6 months after his burial, there is confusions rocking the party advising all who are not happy with election of Dr. Dalitso Kabambe as UTM President not to waste their time going to court but to return the party to the owners.

The activist said one losing presidential UTM aspirant is ready to go to court to obtain an injunction restraining the election of Dr. Kabambe as President alleging that he has agreed with the MCP to drag the case until 16th September, 2025 elections for UTM to go with no presidential candidate.

“UTM members, if care is not taken, the party will go to the 2025 General Elections Without a presidential candidate and once this happen, it will be the end of the UTM,” said Kalindo.

He said he made an earlier proposal for Madam Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima to take over the leadership of the UTM saying that proposal has started bearing fruits, some people in the party who claimed to have been Chilima’s best friends, are the ones wanting to finish the party.

Kalindo has finally thanked one UTM councilor for Blantyre for rushing to court for protection of UTM symbols saying this is the way to go as this will save Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s legacy not to be forgotten in the history of Malawi.
