Lecturer at the University of Hebron in Lilongwe, Dr. Lyford Sizi Banda, has released his debut book titled ‘Becoming Self-reliant’ (English version) and ‘Chiyambi cha Moyo Wodzidalira’ (Chichewa version).
The book, launched on November 29, 2024, at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel, aims to empower the young generation to take responsibility for their lives, create their own wealth, and become self-reliant.
In an interview with our journalist Chisomo Phiri, Dr. Banda, who is passionate about seeing a positive change in Malawi, said he was motivated to write the book due to the country’s struggles with poverty and unsustainable livelihoods, particularly among the young generation.

When asked about the writing industry in Malawi, Dr. Banda expressed concerns about the lack of financial support for writers, making it challenging for him to publish his book.
Despite the challenges,Dr. Banda said he is hopeful that his book will inspire young people to realize their potential and contribute to the economic development of their families, churches, communities, and the nation.
Dr. Banda’s writing journey began in 2018, and he plans to continue writing and inspiring others through his work.
