Low voter turnout has been reported by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) at a number of registration locations, especially in Mzimba District.
The sentiments were by Justice Annabel Mtalimanja following her tour of various district centres.
She said she hoped more people would sign up as the deadline drew near.
Due to the rains that started earlier this week, MEC discovered through enquiries that a large number of individuals in Mzimba are busy planting.
Mtalimanja called on all parties involved, including political parties, to push their supporters to register.
She underlined the significance of early registration for individuals without identification cards.
“The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) has increased civic education efforts in areas where registration is taking place,” said Aaron Luhanga, the civic education officer for Mzimba District.
Luhanga emphasised the need of registering to guarantee that citizens can exercise their freedom to choose their leaders.
Malawi Electoral Commission is presently carrying out the third round of voter registration in Mzimba, Lilongwe Rural, Lilongwe City, Mwanza, Chikwawa, Mangochi, and Nsanje.
