New youth organization launched to support Chakwera’s re-election

As the 2025 general elections approach, a new youth organization within the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) called the ‘Chakwera Youth Brigade’ has been launched.

Unveiling the organization at a press briefing held at the Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu on Saturday evening, the grouping’s leader, Lapken Thindwa,said their agenda is to champion peaceful campaigns in the country ahead of the general elections next year, while also supporting President Lazarus Chakwera’s bid for a second term.



Thindwa praised President Chakwera’s leadership, highlighting the country’s significant development progress, including various infrastructure projects.

“The country has attained several development projects under Chakwera’s leadership, demonstrating his capability as a leader.

“As a youth grouping, we are ready to give him our full support to run the country for a second term,” said Thindwa.

The Chakwera Youth Brigade includes notable members such as Kelvin Chirambo, former Regional Governor for the People’s Development Party (PDP), and Shaggy Mlanga, a United Transformation Movement (UTM) party member.

In his remarks, Chirambo expressed satisfaction with president Chakwera’s achievements during his four-year tenure.

On his part,Mlanga commended President Chakwera’s appointment of Honourable Vitumbiko Mumba to the cabinet, citing it as a meritorious choice for socio-economic growth and development.
