President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera has urged Malawians to persevere through the current economic challenges, assuring them that his administration is working diligently to rectify the damage caused by corruption, mismanagement of funds, and poor decision-making by previous governments.
He made the remarks on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed cabinet ministers at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The President acknowledged that he had forewarned Malawians of the hardships they would face during the first five years of his presidency, emphasizing that these difficulties are a necessary step towards rebuilding the economy.
He expressed optimism that the next five years would bring improvement.
Chakwera cautioned the newly appointed ministers against unnecessary travel, instead urging them to focus on supporting his efforts to revitalize the economy.
The call to action echoes Chakwera’s commitment to economic recovery, as outlined in his 2024 State of the Nation Address, where he highlighted the creation of 197,809 new jobs and a groundbreaking labor export deal with Israel.
