Mvalo stresses importance of governance, rule of law

By Chisomo Phiri

Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo has emphasized the vital role of governance, accountability, and access to justice in transforming Malawi into a prosperous and self-reliant nation.

Speaking at the opening of a rule of law meeting in Lilongwe, hosted by the Chandler Foundation and the World Justice Project on Thursday, Mvalo stressed that these principles are essential for achieving the three pillars of Vision 2063: agricultural productivity and commercialization, industrialization, and sustainable urbanization.

The minister noted that fair and effective regulatory enforcement is crucial for industrialization and attracting investments.

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring fundamental rights and security to promote trust in institutions, which is vital for social and economic participation.

“By incorporating rule of law principles into every aspect of the development agenda, Malawi can lay the groundwork for sustainable progress and resilience,” said Mvalo.

Malawi is currently the second-best performing country among low-income nations in terms of the rule of law.
