UTM has postponed a public welcoming event for rapper and politician Fredokiss where the Party Vice President Dr Michael Usi and National Organiser Noel Masangwi were to be guests of honour. According to a statement from the party the postponment is due to the resurgence of Covid-19 in the country. The statement says the event will be held when the situation stabilises.
The hip-hop star, born Penjani Kalua, son of veteran politician Kamlepo Kalua joined active politics in 2019 as an independent candidate for Blantyre City South where he lost to incumbent member of Parliament for the constituency, Noel Lipipa.
This week , the rapper announced his intentions to join UTM . writing on his facebook page Fredokiss issued this statement “On a sad note ,Today, COVID cases have gone up and most of the new cases are from Blantyre. All of them are local transmissions. I believe I have a moral obligation to protect my fellow human beings by not doing anything that risks life and or health. For this reason we have decided to cancel Tomorrow’s event. Apologies for any inconveniences”.
In the past 24 hours , Malawi has registered 83 cases of which 48 are from Blantyre pushing the number of active cases national wide to 398.
