Phalombe secondary school alumni have embarked on a philanthropic mission to support their alma mater.
The group, driven by a sense of nostalgia and a desire to give back to their community, has set its sights on delivering 200 mattresses to the school by the end of the month.
The group has attached a budget of approximately K1.5 million to support the delivery of the mattresses.

According to the group’s spokesperson, Robert Nazwitwere, the decision to provide mattresses was motivated by the desire to create a conducive learning environment for the students.
“We are committed to supporting our alma mater in any way we can,” said Nazwitere. “We believe that by providing these mattresses, we can help improve the overall quality of life for the students and enable them to focus on their studies.”
In addition to the mattress donation, the group is also planning to visit the school to assess the state of the infrastructure.
The visit, which is scheduled to take place later this month, will provide the group with an opportunity to interact with the students and appreciate the extent of the work that needs to be done.
“We are particularly concerned about the state of the sewer system at the school,” said Booker Matemvu ,a senior Executive member for Phalombe seconds school alumni. “We have been informed that the students are currently using pit latrines, which is unacceptable. We plan to use our visit to assess the situation and determine the best course of action to take.”
The group’s efforts have been met with enthusiasm from the school administration, which has expressed gratitude for the support.
“We are extremely grateful to the alumni group for their generosity and commitment to our school,” said Ideas Tembo, the school’s French teacher. “Their support will go a long way in improving the lives of our students, and we look forward to working with them to address the challenges facing our school.”
The alumni group’s philanthropic mission is a testament to the power of community and the importance of giving back.
As the group works tirelessly to support their alma mater, they are inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and make a positive impact on their communities.
“We believe that everyone has a role to play in supporting the development of our communities,” said Mavuto Gadaga ,an alumnus “We hope that our efforts will inspire others to take action and make a difference in the lives of those around them.”
As the group prepares to deliver the mattresses and visit the school, they are calling on others to join them in their mission.
“We need all the support we can get,” said Matemvu. “We urge anyone who is interested in supporting our cause to get in touch with us. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these students.”
