Sports Writers Association of Malawi (Swam) members on Saturday re-elected Times Group Journalist Mphatso Malidadi to serve a second four- year term as President of the Association.
Malidadi who was the sole candidate was elected during Swam’s Elective General Meeting (EGM) held at Safari Beach in Salima.
Speaking after being re-elected, Malidadi who was first voted into power in November, 2018, thanked the delegates for trusting him to lead the association.

” I would like to thank the delegates for trusting us and me in particular that I should continue leading the association. It was not an easy decision on my part but members convinced me that they considered the success stories that the committee achieved despite the challenges encountered,” he said.
He further assured the members that all issues that were raised during the EGM will soon be addressed.
He said “We are going to look into issues which they have raised. Issues to do with the constitutional review; we know the constitution is outdated so we will make sure that within the first four months we do it so that we should have it in our operations. “
“There were a number of issues that were mentioned concerning trainings and I would like to assure the members that these trainings will be conducted so that they continue servicing the sports fraternity.”
Malidadi was not the only candidate who went unopposed; Mibawa Television Journalist Lucy Kadzongwe and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Presenter Wesysylas Chirwa were re-elected as Vice President and General Secretary respectively.
The position of National Coordinator went to Benjamin Maona of Gazette Media while Philip Pasula of Nyasa Times beat Pledge Jari of Nation Publications Limited to win the position of Vice General Secretary.
Synoden Kadzakumanja is now SWAMS’s Treasure General replacing David Daniel Dauda who has been holding the position for the past four years.
Kadzakumanja won the position after beating former SWAM Coordinator, Japhet Thole.
SWAM members also elected executive members who are Sandfor Sambwita, Bright Linda, Rabson Woodwell, Idah Mwambazi and Andrew Cane Chilapondwa.
The Elective General Meeting also had other activities like speeches and presentations by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) who was also the guest of honor, Dr Henry Kamata, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Vice President Ronald Chiwaula, Football Legends Association Board Chairperson Jim Kalua and Malawi Boxing Association (MABA) Vice President Francis Kadzakalowa.
