President Chakwera Answers SONA questions in Parliament

President Chakwera was in parliament on Tuesday morning to answer questions concerning the state of the nation address (SONA) he delivered on the opening of the 2022-2023 Budget meeting.

In his answers President Chakwera reiterated the commitment his government has invested to ensure that Malawi Should be corrupt-free hence the need to build capacity of institutions that are mandated to lead the fight.

“Besides increasing funding for the operations of the Anti Corruption Bureau, we also intend to establish the Financial and Economic Crimes Court to ensure a quick and speedy disposal of cases” Chakwera said .

In reaction to a question on funding for road projects across the country, The president highlighted the continued allocation of resources to all certified projects to make sure that they are completed within deadlines.

He also tackled a question on plans to create jobs and wealth especially in the country’s four cities. Chakwera replied in reference to the 642 hectares allocated for the establishment of industrial parks and special economic zones.

On Education, in relation to a question on funding for construction of new secondary schools, President Chakwera reminded the legislators how Malawi remains on course to get the Integrated Financial Management Information Systems (IFMIS) fully operational hence removing all existing bottlenecks.

The president also highlighted government’s obligation to fully develop and regulate the mining industry and make it one of the pillars of our job and wealth creation drive.
