Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has left the country through Kamuzu International Airport for New York in United States of America where he will attend the 2022 UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Summit from 25 to 28 April.
Speaking to reporters before departure Chilima said the trip is important to the country’s development as delegates at the meeting will discuss ways of fostering development in least developed countries.
Commented on reports that he will be taking with him around 40 people to the US, Chilima said only 15 people on the list of his delegation. He said it was unfortunate that people fabricated stories on the issue and advised Malawians to desist from such.
He also dismissed allegations that he is being wasteful pointing out that as Vice President he has made a decision not to go for his annual leave “conscious of the cost implications.”
He will return on 30 April.
