Dedza Police Station is keeping in custody a 22-year old Emmanuel Jeremiah for allegedly defiling his elder brother’s daughter.
According to Dedza Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Edward Kabango, Jeremiah is suspected to have been defiling the teenager since 2017.
“Emmanuel was invited to Dedza by his elder brother after he divorced in 2017”
“The same year he arrived, he started defiling the 11-year-old girl and threatened to kill her if she dared reveal to anyone,” explained Kabango.
Kabango said the situation affected her performance at school to the extent that she dropped out despite being one of the bright students in her class.
He said the girl was crying whenever the teacher was teaching life skills subject on sexuality , a move which prompted the teacher to ask her more but she never revealed anything.
The teacher referred the matter to police officers who went to the school and held a meeting.
In the process, the girl revealed the sad story behind her crying in class during life skills subject.
“When the police officers went to the school held on a school outreach meeting.The girl revealed everything which led to the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday 11 May 2022.
However, Kabango has dvised parents in the country to be close with their children and discuss issues that affect them on their day-to-day lives to avoid them being victimized.
Emmanuel Jeremiah hails from Salijeni village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsabwe in Thyolo.
