The President of the African Bible College Paul Chinchen has died. The announcement has been made by his family saying he suddenly left earth for heaven from a heart attack at his home in Jackson, Mississippi, USA on Wednesday, 6th July 2022.
“The Church around the world in general and the ABC Mission and Family in particular have lost a great leader and champion for Christ and Christian education; who devoted his life to the development of devout Christian leaders for the church, missions, education, government, media, non-profits, business, social work, community development, health care, and sports.” Read the statement
Paul had just returned from a mission trip to Malawi, where he was presenting degrees to graduates of ABC at a ceremony presided by the President of the Republic of Malawi, who knew Paul during his many years in Malawi building and leading African Bible College. Paul also founded the ABC Christian Academy, the ABC Clinic, and the African Business Institute. Paul died at the age of 58 on the very day Malawi was marking 58 years of Independence.
Paul has been a missionary with African Bible Colleges for almost 30 years serving with the mission in Malawi, Uganda and Liberia. Paul has been head of the mission since 2008, and Laura is Vice Principal of Recruiting and Curriculum Development for the ABC Christian Academy, an international mission school the Chinchens founded in 1998.
During Paul’s tenure as President he had overseen the re-opening of ABC’s Liberia campus after 17-years of civil war, increased the three colleges’ enrollment from 300 to 650, expanded degree programs from 1 to 7, opened ABC’s first television station, and helped established the first Hearing Clinic and Audiology degree program in the county ABC’s campus in Malawi.
Dr. Paul Chinchen leaves behind his wife Laura, and children Ashley, Cozz, Annabelle, Levi, Bess and Vanndel, and granddaughter Verona.
Memorial service arrangements will be announced; we ask all our ABC family, students, friends, and partners around the world to pray for God’s comfort and direction during this time of loss.
Dr. Paul D. Chinchen is the second President of African Bible Colleges, following his Father Rev. Jack Chinchen, founder of African Bible Colleges.
