Blue Eagles produced a display of remarkable resistance to hold on for a 1-1 draw with league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets in an exciting contest between two TNM Super League title hopefuls at Kamuzu Stadium.

The defending champions were hoping to create a 10 point gap at the top of the league but the Lilongwe Area 30 side looked more determined to hand Bullets their first ever defeat this season.

This was evident in the second half as Trouble Banda put the visitors in front in the 66th minute after connecting with a tap in from Micium Mhone’s pass.

Bullets responded through Chimwemwe Idana in the 73rd minute after receiving an assist from Patrick Mwaungulu.

With the draw, Bullets remain 8 points clear at the summit of the league after playing 24 games followed by Eagles who are stuck on second position with 50 points.

In other matches played on Saturday, capital city giants Silver Strikers lost at home 0-1 against Mighty Tigers. George Chaomba scored the only goal of the match to give Tigers the match needed three points.

Elsewhere, Dedza Dynamos relied on Charles Chipala’s lone goal to beat Mafco FC 1-0 in a match that was played at Dedza Stadium and Civil Service United beat struggling Rumphi United 2-1.
