Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Thursday 17th November, 2022 presided over the inauguration of 2022 Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA) Flag Week at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The flag week will be observed under the theme, ‘vocational skills acquisition; means for improving the livelihoods of persons with disabilities’
In his remarks, Chakwera said this year’s theme aligns with Malawi 2063 Vision, which aspires to use human capital development as an enabling vehicle towards the creation of jobs that give all citizens the opportunity to become self reliant and have a stake in the season of wealth coming to Malawi on the back of the socio economic recovery plan that the government is implementing.
Updating Malawians through his Facebook page, Chakwera urged Malawians to play an active role in advocating for the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in all aspects of both the economy and society.
“In this week and beyond we are tasked to deeply reflect our responsibilities as individuals, organisations and the nation in championing the rights of persons with disabilities,” said the president.
“The Tonse administration, with its progressive and inclusive human capital development agenda, will continue upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities to enable their full participation in nation building.”
