The Malawi national football team finished third in the COSAFA U-17 Boys Championship Region 5 Youth games following their 5-2 win against Botswana at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
Lucky Mkandawire put Malawi in the lead just three minutes from kick-off before Webster Mzunda doubled the lead in the 20th minute.
Vincent Harrison scored the third goal for the Junior Flames just three minutes before half time to end the first half at 3-0 in favour of the hosts.
In the second half, Botswana came in a changed side but the Junior Junior Flames made sure that they add a few more goals to keep the game beyond the visitors’ lead.
Webster Mzunda came again in the 66th minute with a fourth goal before completing his hat-trick in the injury time.
Boikobo Matakula scored all two goals for Botswana.
Just like their brothers, Malawi U17 girls also won bronze medals after finishing third in the competition which South Africa came out as the champions.
