Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Saturday evening took to the podium with an assurance that the DPP will be back in power, come 2025 general elections.

The Ex- Malawi leader was speaking at the party’s Blue Night Fundraising Dinner and Dance held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

Assured Mutharika”I can guarantee you that the DPP will be back in power. There will be another day and another fight.”

Mutharika said for this to happen, the party must have resources, a clear message to Malawians and a right candidate

On resources, he said the party needs a lot of money for convention and campaign among others.

APM added that people have to clearly be told how each and every promise the party makes will be implemented.

On the right candidate, Mutharika hinted on chosing the person who is capable to run the country and manage the economy; arguing Malawians can no longer be fooled.

“Tikasankha bulutu, I can assure, we will never come back to power,” he joked.

Mutharika said, most Malawians now realize that “they made a mistake to vote the Tonse Alliance to govern Malawi” given the challenges they are facing now.

He hit hard at campaign promises made by the Tonse partners as “a bunch of garbage”.

Mutharika revealed that the DPP has completed review and mordenisation of the party and that they are waiting for the NGC and a convention to approve the new constitution.

“We are ready to face a clueless party that has done nothing,” he said.

The former Malawia leader did not conclude his long speech by admitting his party lost the 2019 presidential election.

He said the DPP lost the election due to the 20 percent of votes that came about after Vice President Saulos Chilima joined forces with President Lazarus Chakwera.

Mutharika said:”It was a good coalition. Chilima contributed his 20 percent and Chakwera contributed 35 percent to make 55 percent,” he said.

At the Dinner, APM also launched the initiative, which will see party’s supporters and other well-wishers making financial contributions towards the party through an Airtel Money short code 864284.

The Blue Night Fundraising Dinner and Dance was organized to mobilize funds for the party’s convention to be held in July,2023.
