NICO Group Malawi, which includes NBS Bank and Eris Properties has committed K200 million towards efforts to assist victims of Cyclone Freddy.
According to a statement released by the company on Thursday, the funds will primarily be channeled through World Vision, with additional support to Blantyre Rotary Club, and the Malawi Land Rover Defenders Club.
“As a responsible and responsive corporate citizen, NICO is committed to supporting communities in times of crisis,” reads the statement in part.
Malawi especially the southern part of the country, is still grappling with the after effects of Cyclone Freddy which made landfall on Sunday, killing over 300 people ,injuring and displacing hundreds of people in the process.
On Monday, President Lazarus Chakwera declared State of Disaster in the Southern Region and called for support from local and international partners and donors for the cyclone survivors.
