The National Oil Company of Malawi (NACMA) has assured Malawians of adequate fuel in reserves to satisfy the country’s fuel supply requirements.
This is in response to the rumours that the country is running out of the commodity in pumps.
In a statement made available to 247 Malawi News, Miklas Reuben, Acting Chief Executive Officer for NOCMA confirms of the country having enough fuel in pumps.
“We have adequate fuel reserves and instruments to maintain the fuel availability and we would like to assure the public that the Strategic Fuel reserves have enough stocks to satisfy the country’s fuel supply requirements.
“Fuel supply is a continuous process and at the moment there are in excess 200 trucks carrying petrol and diesel from the Dar es Salaam and Beira in transit to various NOCMA depots.”
According to Reuben, currently trucks are loading fuel from Tanzania hence people should not panic as they are getting fuel on open credit from suppliers.
Reuben also discloses that despite inadequate availability of Forex, from now to Friday next week the country is expecting to receive 6 million litres of petrol.
Commenting on the same, Alfonso Chikuni Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Energy says government is working around the clock to overcome possible reoccurrence of dry fuel pumps.
NOCMA recently suspended selling of fuel in some stations in the southern region after reports that the fuel was seen contaminated with water due to the heavy rains accompanied by Cyclone Freddy.
