Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma has today fulfilled his promise by donating his net salary for March which is K1.5 million, to young men (adzukulu) who worked tirelessly to rescue others during Cyclone Freddy disaster.
The Minister made the promise some weeks ago after visiting some evacuation centres in Blantyre where some Cyclone victims are kept.
Speaking at Naotcha Primary School in Chilobwe, Blantyre on Saturday, Ng’oma said the young men were brave enough during search and rescue missions to discover dead bodies hence the need to recognise their effort.
He further donated shovels and holes to the adzukulu.
“This is coming from a promise i made to them when i first visited them. They did a commendable job that even officials could not manage to do and it was overwhelming to dig dead bodies in the process but they did not relent and were very brave,” Ng’oma said.
On his part, Group Village Headman Chilobwe thanked Ng’oma for the support towards the youth, saying it will go a long way in motivating them.
